My inspiration with health stems from my grandmother. Her 40-year nursing career influenced me and I even considered studying to become a doctor but medicine didn’t truly resonate with me. My attitude towards health is to keep a proactive approach in which the focus is on consistency with exercise and healthy eating in an attempt to rely on medicine less often.
Growing up I was a multi-sport athlete competing in basketball, football, baseball and track. I naturally gravitated towards team sports because of its effects on my mood- I used them as an outlet to release anger, stress, and anxiety. Once I realized that exercise had this positive affect on me mentally and emotionally, it was an easy decision to study movement sciences in college because I wanted to learn more! I obtained a degree in Kinesiology at San Francisco State University and I am always looking to sharpen my skills as a trainer.
I’ve learned that fitness is a mindset, not necessarily a goal or destination. The state of being fit doesn’t always mean having the lowest body fat percentage or having washboard abs, instead it can mean getting up early to workout before starting your day when the bed seems extra comfortable in the morning or skipping out on a binge watch session of the latest show on Netflix to walk your dog at the beach and enjoy the sun. I like to think of fitness as a personal tool for anyone to make become a more productive, happy and relaxed individual. I see it as my job to motivate, educate and inspire anyone who seeks help. But most importantly let’s make it fun!
